Looking for anyone at all who can shed any light on the parents of Susan Sarah Hunter Peach, who married Henry C. West.
But I was "doing the math" here - and came up with a theory about Susan Hunter Peach.Looking and piecing together the clues...
(1)First of all, she always went by "Sarah" in all the censuses I found her in.
(2)The 1900 census shows she was born "Feb 1826", and the census was taken just three days before she died.
(3)There were two men named "Peach" who lived very closely to Henry C. West and Sarah throughout the censuses:one was GEORGE PEACH (b. 1813) , the other was DUREN PEACH (b. 1808).
(4)Since we know Sarah was born in 1826 - - doing the math, George would have been 13-years old in 1826.Not the best candidate for a convincing "Father of Sarah" saga. However, Duren would have been 18-years old - at least a probable and logically believable candidate.
(5)From "stuff" I have gathered on the internet - - it looks like Duren Peach married twice - - (a)Jane A. Armstrong, and (b)Cynthia Jane Gaskin. Some internet "stuff" says Cynthia Jane Gaskin was born 1824.An internet stat shows Duren and Jane Armstrong married in 1830, in Kershaw Co.
(6)Duren's children on the internet go as follows (just going by the dates given on the internet):
* Ann Peach - b. 1836 * Daniel Peach - b. 1836 - - (married Elizabeth West, Henry C. West's sister.Their parents were: Wm. Eli West and Millie (Truesdale) West). * Margaret - b. 1838 * Martha - b. 1838 * Nancy - b. 1844 * Charles - b. 1845 * W. James - b. 1847 * Mary - b. 1847
(*Note:Sarah is not listed as a child to Duren Peach and Cynthia Jane Gaskin - and rightly so.Cynthia was born in 1824, and Duren's daughter, Sarah, was born in 1826, two-years later !)
(*Note:From the children listed above, there is a 6-year age difference in the birth order between Martha and Nancy.)
(7)Since Cynthia Jane was born in 1824, if you take that number and bring her up to 18-years old, that would be "1842."
(8)There is a probable deduction that the first four children listed above were from first wife, JANE A. ARMSTRONG - - - and the second four children were from CYNTHIA JANE GASKIN.
(9)Now...the only problem here is our Sarah Hunter Peach, who married Henry C. West - - as she was born in 1826...before EACH MARRIAGE !
The only thing I can deduce from all of this is...perhaps Duren was married previously to both other marriages.
So what hints may lead to Duren being the father of Sarah Hunter Peach ??
* 1850 census - Kershaw County - Duren is living two homes away from Henry C. and Sarah West.
* 1870 census - Kershaw, Flat Rock Duren is living two homes away AGAIN from Henry C. and Sarah West.
Any possible ideas here, guys ?
PS - Again, I always heard Sarah's last name to be "Hunter."The internet seems to say the same thing - "Hunter."However, since yesterday and doing my best researching, I can see why "Peach" would be a logical surname for Sarah after all.
