I am not researching this man, just entering information from the book "Along the Potomac, Extracts from the Maryland Gazette, 1728-1799" by Edith Moore Sprouse:
"Charles Wilson Peale is setting up shop as a saddler, harness maker, postering and repair of carriages in Annapolis. He says he is a young man just starting in business. (2 Jan 1762)."
"Charles Wilson Peale has lately removed to Church Street (Annapolis), where Mr. Swan formerly kept his store. He carries on the saddlers business.Painting of signes is likewise performed. (7 Apr 1763)"
"Charles Wilson Peale advertises his business of clock making and repair, watch cleaning, and also the sadler's business. (9 Feb 1764)"
"Westmoreland County, Virginia has ordered for the courthouse there a portrait of the Earl of Shatham. It is done by Charles Peale of Maryland (formerly apprenticed to a saddler at Annapolis, but sent home to England by several gentlemen to study art). The portrait is like a Roman orator. (11 May 1769)"
"Mr. ELIE VALETTE, pay me for painting your family picture.Charles Peale. (6 Oct 1774)"
"Mr. Peale, ever desirous to please and entertain the public, will make a part of his house a repository for natural curiosities. (2 Nov 1786)"
"August 26.New acquisitions to Peale's musuel included an American Pelican, entire and in good preservation, killed on the Chester River, Maryland, and presented by Col. Tilghman. 4 Sep 1788)"
"Peale Portrait, Miniature and Landscape Painter. In Mr. Johnson's house, on the hill, informs those who may please to encourage him in the practise of his profession, that none but approved likenesses shall leave his house. (22 Nov 1798)"
I have typed the name as it appears in each article, however, I believe they are all about the same man.
