Richard, I think we may have a match. Many of my Pearse ancestry haled from Withycombe, Somerset and we have a John Pearse (b.1817) in Withycombe who was a Carpenter. He was married to Jane Staddon and they had children as follows: George (B.1850), Elizabeth, Fanny, Martha and Henry (who had 2 wives!) Although John is not my direct line, (mine migrating to Australia in 1860), I have much information on that side of the family from another relative, Chris Boyles who still resides in Somerset. You may also find Chris' website useful as it has a lot of history on the Pearse's of Withycombe as well as photographs. (Chris has one of John holding a carpenter's set square which may be of interest) http://www.withycombe.org.uk/index.htmlhttp://www.withycombe.org.uk/index.html
Let me know if you think we may have a match here.
