I am looking for information on ancestors who lived in London in the 19th century. George Peat, born near Tiverton, Devon, in 1821. I think he was baptised at the presbyterian chapel in Cullompton in Nov 1821, son of George and Sarah. According to the IGI he had siblings named William ( 1823 ), Eliza ( 1827) Henry ( 1828 ) William ( 1831) Edwin ( 1836) and twin? Caroline. George was a smith ( iron worker ) He married a Caroline Hateley , possibly in London, but I cannot find any record of their marriage yet. According to the 1851 census, when they were living in Bloomsbury, they had a son, William ,born Southwark ( south London ) in 1843/4 and then Henry John, born in Bloomsbury in 1850. Anyone know of other children of this family?
Henry John married Frances Yates in the Old Church St Pancras in 1870. I cannot find them on any of the censuses, though family history said he worked ( as a blacksmith ) on the gates of the Crystal Palace and had a workshop in a mews off Baker Street. Does anyone know where. I cannot find a birthplace and date for Frances Yates till I find them on a census.
My husband's grandfather, Samuel Edwin Peat, was born in Branstone Street, Kensington in June 1884. We believe he had 3 brothers, who worked as blacksmiths with their father, and a sister, Polly. Any information on these would be very helpful
