HI Glenna:
These Pebleys are a mystery. I have an article from an 1870 newspaper in which the writer says "My Grandfather Pebley died in a battle of the Revolution." and that "he was from Bottletourt County," Virginia. This grandfather is almost certainly John PAVELY whose will was recorded 1782 in Washington County, Tennessee. As to whether they are English, Scottish or what, I don't know.I think either Scottish or German.German you say? Some of the Pebleys seem to have adopted the name Pebler, which is considered a variant of Beebler, or Bibler.I personally would GUESS Scots because of the families they were associated with, but that German name remains a possibility.
I don't know who Andrew's parents were, but that he was related to the other Campbell/Claiborne County Pebleys is certain.I believe he is a grandson of the original Tennesee Pebley, John, cited above. The problem is which son of John's does Andrew belong to?
If Andrew owned a farm, do you know what the chain of ownership is for it?That may give you your answer.
I can tell you that he was not the son of John and Mahala Pebley, because I have a list of their children.
However, there was an earlier John who lived there, also a George and an Abraham. These are your suspects.
Good luck.G
