Dr. Arch Peery and wife Elizabeth Ann Kirk Peery are also
buried in the George Peery Cemetery at Edinburg.
Dr. Arch's son Daniel William Peery isburied next to them
along with Daniel's wife.
Daniel married late in life. There were no children.
Daniel was an Oklahoma 89er, a U.S. Marshal in Oklahoma
Territory, and a newspaper man, a territorial representative, and a state representative. He was also
a historian and founding father of the Oklahoma Historical
Dan W. Peery's name appears on a memorial plate on the
west wall of the Oklahoma historical society building as
a founding member.
George and Jane, (Jenny) had 18 kids altogether and one,
Virginia, and another son died as children so yes, there
were lots of descendants.
The George Peery cemetery is on land once owned by George
and Jane, and is now owned by a family named Gentry, descendants of George and Jane.
I have met them. They are really nice folks.
My link to them is that Nancy H. Peery Witten, my great
great great grandmother, was a first cousin to George
Peery and is also buried in the George Peery cemetery.
She lived from 1822, born in Tazewell, to 1853, died in

Samuel K. Witten was a son of James Stanley Witten and wife
Lavicie Smith Thompson Witten, both of whom were born and
raised in Tazewell Va., and are also buried in the George
