I descend from Daniel Pegg, b. ca. 1738 in NJ, son of Daniel and Hannah (Cliff) Pegg. All the sources I've seen give Daniel Jr.'s wife as Elizabeth, but I've never seen any primary sources confirming this. Then yesterday, I stumbled across this:
"More Records of Old Hunterdon County", Vol II, Phyllis B. D'Autrechy. Dated 22 May 1806; proved 25 Feb. 1818.
Catherine Robins, widow and relict of John Robins of Amwell Twp., Daughters (leaves clothing & household items) - Sarah Teeple (wife of Peter Teeple), Ann Wilson (wife of Thomas Wilson), Mary Gary (wife of Peter Gary), and Elizabeth Snyder (wife of Stophel Snyder). Sons ($1.00 each) - Daniel, Thompson, Peter (surnames not clear), Nathan Pegg, and Jacob Pegg. Granddaughters: Hannah Swallow (wife of Phillip Swallow), 2 tin basins and 4 spoons; Catherine Osburn (wife of Emly [sic] Osburn), pair of smoothing irons, a rolling pin and hitchell; Aeasia Gary (daughter of Peter Gary), churn and small tin basin; Docia Gary her sister, a small round table and small tin basin; Sarah Teeple ( daughter of Peter Teeple), one pewter plate and tea pot; Sarah Pegg (daughter of my son, Nathan Pegg), two pewter plates & 2 spoons; Amy Teeple (daughter of Peter Teeple) 1 pewter plate; Caty Snyder (daughter of Stophel Snyder), pewter tea pot & small pewter basin. Residue of household furniture and clothing to be divided equally among my four daughters, Sarah, Anne, Mary, and Betty. To Son Jacob Pegg, all monies. Executor: son Jacob Pegg Witnesses: Peter Gary and Philip Bevin
From this, it seems that Daniel Pegg's wife -- and the mother of his children -- was Catherine ___ who married, as her second husband, John Rob(b)ins.
Does anyone know anything more about this Catherine?I've done a little digging to see if I could find her maiden name, but no luck so far.
