I too, was wondering what the name Peglow meant if anything. Recently I was corresponding with one of our German brethren, and I put this question to him. What follows is the response which I received. I paraphrase. "A long time ago the ancestors were horse herdsman, and from this profession developed the name Pegloi. These people lived in the western part of Germany called Westphalen. The name Pegloi is the joining of two words, "Peg", and "Loi". The word "Peg" comes from an old German dialect meaning horse. "Loi" comes from an old German dialect meaning lion. There is a family heraldic symbol showing a horse and a lion on it. During the 30 years war many of the people living in Westphalen migrated to an area called Pommern. There the name Pegloi transformed into Peglow, because of the dialect which was spoken there." He goes on to say that his father said all Peglow's have their roots in Pommern.
