That street bears that name in honor of Jean-Baptiste Péloquin who was the last mayor of Ahuntsic before its annexation to the city of Montreal. He was also the owner of a fairly large hotel that burned down in the summer of 1911.
I also live on Péloquin street in a house that was built in 1905-6 and the lots, on which it was built, were sold by him.
Maurice Richard lived right next to the river across the Stanley Park street. He was well appreciated locally but was rather a shy man. The last time I spoke to him was about 12 years ago at the local parish blood donor clinic. He was signing autographs and trying to get more people to give blood.
I recently found two old photographs of the hotel owned by J.B. Péloquin and would be curious if anyone has more information on that man?
