John Pendarves, the son of Alexander Pendarves died at around age 3 according to the Cambourne Parish Records. He is also not mentioned in the Visitation of 1620, which listed the children then living in the household. His brother Richard married Katherine Arundell.Their cousin John, who was born ca 1620 and the grandson of their uncle Raphe, is a more likely candidate for Joseph's father.
Mr. Heyward only guessed at John, the son of Alexander, as a possible father to the immigrant Joseph Pendarvis. He made it clear that it was an educated guess and quoted his source as the very incomplete record of the Pendarves family found in Burke's Landed Gentry Families.Per his own record, his guess was made primarily on the basis of the name John, as Joseph's first and only recorded son bore that name.
I made a case for Joseph's wife not being Elizabeth Stonehall in a previous post and won't repeat it.As for an Elizabeth West, there is no Elizabeth West mentioned in the surviving list of First Fleet passengers, which we know Joseph's wife was a member per the Warrants for Land. There certainly were plenty of West family members here, though there is not an unaccounted for Elizabeth West in the known families of Samuel(his aunt left a will naming her neices and nephews-Cambridgeshire, Eng) and William or Joseph West (all First Fleet immigrants).
The second generation in Charleston John Pendarvis did marry Mary West and secondly Hannah Goring Keys/Kays.Hannah Goring Keys was the widow of John Keys when she married John Pendarvis.
The "Genealogy of the Pendarvis-Bedon Families," nor Ancestral Files are original source documents. The Baker Family Records, where dealing with the Pendarvis family, concern themselves mainly with the children left by Josiah Pendarvis, Sr. by his first wife Elizabeth Bohun Baker. The record was used primarily to build support for the inheritance of a larger portion of the Baker family estate by Richard Bohun Baker, who argued that he was the logical heir to Richard "Tory Dick" Pendarvis and Tory Dick's young neice, Mary Flowers, rather than Josiah Pendarvis, Sr.'s children by his second wife Mary Bedon.
