We were told they were part Indian. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were White, Indian, and/or Negro mixed. I have found little information on the sons of John Henry PENDARVIS. So, if your father was Joseph and he left Charleston that would explain why I did not find anything on him here. Do you have a middle name? Other family information? Photos? Who did he marry? A girl from Charleston?
I do have Information on Lillie PENDARVIS and her line. She was very close to our family. Two of her relatives just recently died. I brought the obit (with photo) home to scan of Mary Francis PETIT who married CARRIER. She was the dau. of Julia Shokes (also died recently) and Wm Petit. Julia SHOKES was the dau. of Lillie PENDARVIS and Clifton SHOKES (cousin of Lillie PENDARVIS' step-father John Henry SHOKES).
I have recently found more information from the Charleston Orphan House Records. A letter was written onbehalf of the PENDARVIS children by the magistrate, or post master of Adams Run requesting assistance for the family due to the severe illness of the father. The father soon afterwards died and the children placed in the Orphan House. A note must be made that within the letter it was mentioned that these children were "white", the word was underlined, which made it stand out all the more. This made me curious, and wonder if there would have been questions concerning the race of the children.
I do know that my g-Grandmother Matilda HARRISON was Indian/White, and from the same area, Adams Run.
If you have anymore questions please write email@example.com
I will try to soon share the rest of the Orphan House info online with the rest of the group.
