There is no last name for Jane - only an "E" who Joseph said died in Logan County on January 26, 1888.Mention of this marriage is recorded on the Department of Interior, Bureau of Pensions Certificate #752294, 1/15/1898 where it asked about his marriages on the backside of the form and also he lists the names of his children from this marriage.I don't know the story about the lover's dispute. It was mentioned in a conversation, but no explanation was given.
Joseph Penick was a PFC, Arkansas Infantry Volunteers, 1st Regiment (Union) (I have downloaded the roster from www.itd.nps.gov/cwss site.)
