I have some records of these persons, but the ages vary and make decisions difficult. First question, have the certificates been passed down in the family, or you have obtained them.
To your 1.) query. I can only find one 5 year old William, his parents are Richard and Sarah. There is a William with parents James and Sarah but he is only 3 years old. Both are in the 1881 census. Any other references to a William are too young and have different parents.
The James who married Margaret Bates I have no William with them.
To your 2.) query. There is a James 5 years of age with his parents Peter and Ellen (Helen ref. 1841 census).By 1851 Peter is married to a Mary Ann. Now the problem with this is I have it that this James may have died in 1852.
James born to James(bricklayer) and Margaret Bate is 8 years old in the 1881 census. He was born in the April quarter 1872. But this James the bricklayer's parents is John and Margaret Whitfield.
So it looks as if these are not linked to your tree at this stage.
What do you make of it, I hope it is not confusing.
If you wish we could email each other with questions etc.I am very interested your link back to Peter and Sarah as my tree may connect to this and I have a few families recorded that go back to Peter.Yours may be another family that can help me out with mine.Shelley and Gordon on this list are linked to Peter and Sarah.
