Sallie Mae Penley Nelson, 82, of Limestone, Washington Co
TN, went home to be with the Lord Thursday evening,
June 4, 2009, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center
after a period of declining health.
She was born in Greene County, TN, and lived her entire
life in the Washington County area and was of the Baptist
She was preceded in death by the father of her children,
William Penley; companion of 32 years, William Showman;
four children; five grandchildren; and one great grandson.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Nelson, of the home;
daughters, Geneva Gray and husband Michael of Virginia
Beach, VA, Betty Smith and husband Ronnie of Nashville,
TN, Dorothy Mayes and husband Charlie of Nashville, TN,
Margaret Smith and companion Kurt Brooks of Nashville, TN,
special daughter and caregiver, Phyllis Necessary and
husband Daniel of Blountville, TN; sons, Frankie Penley,
of the home, Roy Penley and wife Kay, of Baileyton, TN,
Buddy Penley and wife Martha of Watauga, TN; other special
caregivers, grandson, Daniel Joe Necessary, Jr;
granddaughters, Kristy Necessary and Martha Dykes; forty
grandchildren; forty eight great grandchildren; two great-
great grandchildren; sisters, Viola Garber, Kathleen
Farris, and Edna Hoke, all of Greeneville, TN; brother,
Raymond Smith of IL; and several nieces and nephews and
other family members.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.,
Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520
Watauga Street, Kingsport, TN, or anytime at the home of
Daniel Joe Necessary, Jr.
A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2009, in
the funeral home chapel with Rev. Angie Childress, Rev.
Annie Porter and Bro. Daniel Necessary, Jr. officiating.
Music will be by Becky Guy, Rev. Annie Porter, and Rev.
Angie Childress and daughter. Grandchildren and great
grandchildren will be pallbearers.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery,
Jonesborough, Washington Co TN.
Memorial donations to help pay for the funeral expenses
may be made to the family in care of Daniel J. Necessary,
Jr., 1439 Wolfe Lane, Lot E-12, Mt. Carmel, TN, 37645.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is serving
