Hi Lori -
I hope you're still there. We were trying to connect our families a few years ago.I just received copy of an 1851 census for my David Penman, living in Dunfermline, and they had a daughter named Helen, born ca 1836.Their youngest son Alexander was born in Ballingry.Children from this census, plus one in 1861 are (using possibly DOB's from the census and data I have):
George - b. Jul 1837, died in Monroe County, Iowa, m. Cynthia P. Blair
Jean - b. ca 1833
Hellen - b. ca 1836
William - b. ca 1846
David - b. 21 Feb 1847, married Hannah Williams, d. Oregon
Sarah - b. 14 May 1849 Halbeath, Fife, d. 1899 Monroe County, Iowa
Mary - b. ca 1853
Alexander - b. 20 Oct 1856 Ballingry, Fife; m. 1878 in Mahaska county, Iowa Catharine Ellen Barnett
All children listed said to have been born in Dumfermline, though descendants say that Sarah was born in Halbeath. If they're anything like our census records, we need to give that some leeway.
George, Jean and Hellen are not in the 1861 census, so assume they married.William not listed either, and may have died young, or was living and working somewhere else.I was pretty excited to get this census.Have been searching a long time.
Do you think this might be the Helen you're looking for?
I've moved and have a new E-Mail address, if you want to contact me that [email protected]
Hope to hear from you.
