Martha, a surveyers map from that time would be a big help, they were printed out about every 10 years to keep track of the tax payers. There was another creek that ran close to Mawhipponock called Winticomiack. When the county boundries canged part of it was in Amelia. Mawhipponick was in Dinwiddie. The head waters of both these creeks was the Appomotox River. The town of Petersburg was formed by these early land patents. In 1668 The John Batts-Batte and John Sturdvant (Sea Captains)brought their families and many people from England for which they recieved thousands of acres on the Blackwater and along the south side of the Appomotox river. My family came to America on one of their ships.
