Patricia, Sounds like we are cousins! I do not have a great amount of data on this family, but would be happy to share what I have.
My earlier data comes from research done in the early 1980's at the New York Genealogical & Biographical Society.
Adam Pentz emigrated from Wuurtenburg Germany prior to the Revolution, settling in the area now known as Englewood, NJ He married Susan Perry, who married as her second husband John Grant. It is unclear whether this Adam moved to Manhattan.
The only child I have found reference to of the above is Adam Pentz (jr), born in 1773 and married in 1793 to Anne Carter, daughter of Daniel Carter and Mary or Annie Laurence. ( I have begun to doubt the connection to the D'Ersby family from my earlier post)
I would say it is quite possible that your Adam Perry Pentz is the son of the above, but with his birth in 1811, could he be a grandson?
Do you have an Enoch Pentz in your line anywhere? I have a legal document describing a lawsuit between Daniel Carter Pentz Jr (Daniel Carter, Adam Jr., Adam)and Enoch Pentz et al. from 1878. This is a dispute over the will of Daniel Carter Pentz Sr. The document refers to a suit filed with the New York Supreme Court, and lists the following real estate;
House and Lot at 310 E. 23rd St, NYC Two lots on the North side of E. 85thSt. NYC Land and five story brick house at 2 Gouverneur Lane, NYC.
By the way, do you have any connections to a Henry R. Haskin? I have another family letter from this man proposing marriage to an Elizabeth Bussing in 1815. I have not been able to make the connection with this couple, they married in Fordham, now the Bronx in 1816.
