Based on verbal history, my paternal great grandfather came from Alsaace-Lorraine to Indiana in the 1870's during the Franco-Prussian War to escape the Germans. His ancestors came from Italy to settle in Alsaace Lorraine when Napolean invaded Italy. According to verbal history provided by my grandfather Leonard Joseph Pepe, Sr., the ancestor was an Italian general who joined Napolean during the invasion. My grandfather left Indiana and came to Newport News, VA to work in the shipyard. He lived to be 100. My father, Leonard Joseph Pepe, Jr. does not remember his grandfather because his father never talked about him. My grandmother's family, the Fromal's, was also from France. They came from Normandy. This may not be of any help to you, but I thought it was interesting that both families settled in Indiana within 40 years of each other.
