ABC aired on January 27, 28, and 31, 2002 a Stephen King mini-series "Rose Red", based on true happenings in the Seattle mansion of the same name. Built in 1907 by oil magnate John Rimbauer, the house immediately started to claim victims. Between 1907 and the late 1940's, at least 26 individuals either lost their lives or disappeared within the house.
The truly strange disappearances were compounded by reports that the house could physically change its shape and appearance, so that people familiar with its vast interior reported that hallways expanded or contracted, that some rooms disappeared, and that "shape shifting" seemed to take place inside the mansion. Among those who disappeared were the Rimbauer's young daughter in 1918, and in 1928 the long-time trusted African companian of Mrs. Ellen Rimbauer. Ellen herself died at age 70 in 1950.
Dr. Joyce Reardon, a specialist in the paranormal, purchased Ellen Rimbauer's diary in 1998 and is planning to do a "psychic search" of the mansion which is still standing. Evidently the diary revealed a number of clues not previously available to those investigating the mysterious deaths and disappearances.
One of the last 'disappeared ones' in Rose Red in 1946 was Deanna Petrie, described as a film actress. Does anyone posting here know more about Deanna and her background ?
