Richard Cooke /Petingale/ b 6 Jan 1610 Shotesham, Norfolk, England[Church records] to Mathew Petingale and Mary Cooke. He would be aged 85 in 1695, I have death as after 15 July 1695 in Newbury, MA He was illiterate and there are several variations of the family name, but the Shotesham Church records show only one spelling "Petingale." Trials were held each quarter and at different places, I have further data but will have to wait for a better moment. In regard to the age based on an old man's sworn statement, age was never meant to be an exact issue, and at that time it was not considered to be important, especially for an illiterate workman. I do not have the reference but it would be reasonable to assume that Richard was an indentured workman for the Ingersoll Family .
