Thanks for the information on your Pettus ancestry and your interest in my forthcoming book. I apologize, if I did not respond to your earlier query about it.
I should say at the outset that I have done very little original research on Pettuses after they left Virginia. My book focuses on the family origins in England and the early generations in Virginia. I have another volume in preparation that traces the various branches in Virginia down to the present. In the case of Pettuses who left Virginia, I have given some biographical information, including marriages and children.
With regards to your ancestor, Col. William Pettus, I must say his connection to other contemporary or earlier Pettuses has long been a subject of controversy among genealogists, due to the loss of many county records from Virginia's colonial period. There is nothing that I can do to fix that situation, but I have discussed the problem at some length in my book.
With regards to my book on the Pettus family, it is still in preparation. I had essentially completed a first draft, when I received information about some unpublished family papers from the 17th C. in England. I have since gotten copies of many of the papers and have been busy revising part of my book to reflect the new information. I will be happy to notify you when the book is ready to be published.
