The following Pettuses born in Virginia were among the early settlers who migrated to Texas in the nineteenth century:

FREEMAN PETTUS, born about 1780, probably in Mecklenburg County, Virginia; died 1827 in Texas, Republic of Mexico.

WILLIAM ALBERT “BUCK” PETTUS, born about 1785, probably in Mecklenburg County, Virginia; died 1844 in Washington-on-Brazos, Republic of Texas.

SAMUEL OVERTON PETTUS, born about 1803 in Virginia; died after 1832 in Texas, Republic of Mexico.

EDWARD CRADDOCK PETTUS, born 19 September 1812, probably in Virginia; died 17 April 1863.

JOHN FREEMAN PETTUS, born 4 October 1808 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia; died 3 January 1878 in Charco, Goliad County, Texas.

EDWARD ALBERT [?] PETTUS. Edward was born about 1810, probably in Mecklenburg County, Virginia.

SAMUEL OVERTON PETTUS, born, say, in 1810, probably in Louisa County, Virginia; killed 27 March 1836 during the Texas Revolution at Goliad, Texas.
