Derek, Great detective work! Agree that William P (b. 1663) looks to be a good candidate for the father of our William Sr.(m. Abigail) of Roxbury Twp, Morris Co. NJ. Based on your suggestion, I went looking for Westchester Co. church records, and probably found the same ones you uncovered. They are from the "Sleepy Hollow" Dutch Church, and are on the Van Tassel Family History Homepage. Please let me know if these are the records you found. %%%%%%% To summarize: William Depew (Aug 1663 - 1706) married Elizabeth Weyt in 1688. There are records of these four children: 1. Abigail (b. "ca 1689"), m. Pierre Fashay (Pieter Fouseur) 2. Anna (b. 1698) m. ?? 3. Francois (b. 1700) m. Maria Van Tassel 4. Pieter (b. 1702) m. ?? The church records start in 1697 and only have the younger three children; Abigail is NOT in the church birth records (only marriage record). So was our William also their son, and was he likewise not in the church birth records? It certainly seems likely William P and Elizabeth Weyt had more children between 1688 and 1697. The church roll names a "Willem Peu" (member #213, Members Register, Second Division), as having joined on 20 June 1732.I don't see a an obvious spouse. Recall that our Wm. Sr and Abigail purchased property on Scholey's Mountain, Morris Co, in -- well, I think it was 1732. I obviously don't know the age of #213. The material says these people "presented themselves here, were received as members of Jesus Christ, and were permitted to appear at the Lord's table and enjoy the sacrement of the Lord's Supper." Seems to me #213 could have been a pretty young man, but it seems unlikely he would have been a son of Pieter (1702) or Francois (1700). We need to find out more information on the typical ages of people who were joining the church. Seems to me that these records neither prove nor disprove that our William Sr. was the son of William (1663) and Elizabeth Weyt. There is a slim chance that our William Sr., if he was part of the family, is named in the will of the elder William. We need to find that will.
