We have run across some additional info (not validated).Richard's parents were poss. Richard and Maria Phoenix.Anecdotal info says his mother died, father remarried, our Richard was not happy with step-mom and ran off at age 10 to cabin boy on clipper ships. He supposedly had a brother Edward, who was a prospector in Arizona and two married sisters, one in New York City and one in Florida. Our Richard was born in New York City. After a stint in the Hawkins Zouaves during the Civil War, he enlisted in the Navy and became an ensign on the Kansas. After the war, he served for 15 years as US Marshall in China, returned to USA, married Jennie Hood, worked on Union Pacific Railroad, settling in Omaha.Returned to NYC around 1890, worked for US Post Ofc. until 1925, when he moved to Oakhurst to live with son.Died there in 1935 and buried in Trinity Cemetary at 153rd and Amsterdam in NYC, age 91. As I say, most of this is anecdotal so far but may match up in some way with another line of the family, perhaps one of Richard's sisters or his brother. If this sounds familiar to anyone, I look forward to your posting.
