Hello, I am looking for info. mainly on William Phipps of Grimsby, ON. According to some family websites, he was born on August 15, 1834 or 1835 in Bristol, England and died on April 25, 1894 in Grimsby. I'm not sure where they got that birthdate. I've seen their marriage certificate dated October 26, 1863, he is 29 and she is 27. His parents are listed as Jacob and Rebecca Phipps. There was a marriage listing on ancestry.com of Jacob Phipps and Rebecca Brown on Sep. 4, 1825 in Bristol. These could very well be his parents. The only William Phipps I could find with these parents names was baptized on February 12, 1831 in Bristol but I don't think it's the same William. This William was the oldest of five, the others were Elizabeth (married Mr. Poole), Henry Alfred, Susanna, and Mary Ann. According to an old letter dated 1962 from William's grandson,my g-grandfather, Robert Cecil Phipps, he says that William had three older brothers and that when William left for Canada in about 1855, his mother sent him over with a handful of jewels or jewelry. Unfortunately, according to my mother and grandmother, his penchant for accuracy was not the greatest. What I would like to know is did any of his family come to Canada with him and if so, what were their names? Also, who in his family stayed behind in England and what were their names? Any help greatly appreciated. -Mark D'Elia from Niagara Falls, NY.
