PHYs in Oregon

By genealogy.com user January 19, 2001 at 09:17:03

Just identified another branch of the Aquilla PHY family. According to Aquilla's probate records in Missouri, 1864, one of his sons, John M. PHY, went to Oregon. John M. must have taken a wagon train on the Oregon Trail. He settled in Polk Co., OR and appeared on the 1870 census with wife, Margaret, and young son. He then appeared on the 1880 census in Union Co., OR with wife and these children: John F., Marshall H., William T., John A. and Mary M. Then we find him on the 1900 census in Union Co. with a new wife, Lydia, a 2 year old son, Conrad V. Phy and the older children mentioned above along with Maggie and Nettie born of the first wife, Margaret. That is eight children.

Oregon land records were found for Mary L. PHY, John M.'s sister and a Union Co. cemetery record for William C. Phy, John's brother. I must have some PHY cousins researching in Oregon! I would like to hear from you.
