To those who are interested in this family:
I have been doing a little bit of research on the David and Rachel Piatt Family. It appears (according to ancestry.com that Edward Trowbridge was married to a different Rachel Wynn, not the same Rachel Wynn that married David Piatt.Below is some other information that I found out:
Rachel A. WYNN,
Birth: 2 Dec 1831, Racoon Township, Beaver Co., Pennsylvania
Death: bef 1910, Ohio
Rachel Wynn appears twice in the 1860 Census. Her father claims on the census that she lives in Watertown, but she is actually living with her brother, my great grandfather.Joseph D. Wynn (who was also still single at that time). He had purchased a house in Tunnel, Warren Township, Washington County, and was living there with assorted friends and relatives. Rachel and Joseph D.’s father (newly widowed), however, lived in Watertown, OH.Living in this house in Tunnel were Joseph D. Wynn, his sister, Rachel, his brother, Amos D. Wynn, Thomas Lucas, a merchant born in Ireland, Willilam H. Hines, a laborer born in Ohio, and a 12-year old girl born in PA, named S.M. Reed.
To confirm the fact that she was living with her brother,Rachel stated that she was living at Tunnel Station, Warren Township, on her marriage certificate. After her marriage, Rachel and David did move back to Watertown and had a child, also named David, on November 19, 1869; young David died only 7 days after his birth. In the 1870 Census, the couple had only two children listed--Joseph (age 5) and Elmer C. (age 3). John W. Piatt, their last child, was born on Dec 4, 1873 in Watertown, OH. In the 1880 Census, the Piatts are listed under the surname of Pyatt.
Rachel is listed in the 1900 Census as a widow, who is living with her son John in Watertown; John is a clerk in a dry goods store. He is her only child who is still alive.
I think that Rachel died sometime before 1910.Son (John) got married and appears to have moved to the Cleveland, OH area.Perhaps Rachel moved with him and died up there.
It is not known where David or Rachel Piatt are buried, but they could be in unmarked graves.
Spouse: David Andrew PIATT
Birth: 11 Dec 1833, Woodsfield, Monroe Co., OH
Death: 12 Nov 1888, Watertown, Washington Co., Ohio
Occ: Blacksmith, Merchant (Dry Goods Store?)
Cause of death for David is fever.
David is listed as D.M. Piatt on his sons’ gravestones in the Watertown Cemetery. The two sons buried there are David Piatt, who died Dec. 1, 1867 at the age of 7 days and Joseph M. Piatt, who died March 12, 1871 at the age of 6 years, 5 months, 2 days.
David and Rachel were married on 7 Aug 1863, Washington Co, Ohio
