Hi ... I'm just starting to research my ancestry through my mother's side, whose grandfather was a Pickens from Newton, IL.I'm working through ancestry.com at present. At first it seems easy, then I see discrepancies, and family trees that don't agree with each other, and realize I have to be more careful!
I thought I'd post what I *think* is true based on what I've found so far.If anyone else fits into this tree, or has different information, or another resource I can check, it would be appreciated.
Here is my line, going from my great-grandfather backwards:
Darwin Clifton Pickens (1887 - 1975) Arthus Clarence Pickens(1854 - 1948) (other sons: Ernest, Cecil) David Randall Pickens(1821 - 1915) David Pickens(1795 - 1822) John Pickens, Sr(1765 - 1822) James Pickens(1716 - 1800; arr US 1718 from Ireland) Thomas Pickens(1690 - 1739; arr US 1718 from Ireland) Robert Andrew Pickens(1644-France - 1699-Ireland) Andrew Picon? Pickens(1624-Scotland - 1658-Ireland) Robert Pickens Picon?(1600-Scotland - 1639-Ireland) André Pickens (1581-France - 1619)
I've pretty much pieced this together from the suggestions on Ancestry.com that seem to make sense, so I realize I may just be perpetuating someone else's errors.
And I wonder: Is "Picon" another part of the name, or just an alternate spelling?
