William arrived in Sydney on the "Bussorah Merchant" on 19 March 1853 aged 15. He travelled with his mother, Mary Quince (aged 33), his stepfather, Edward Quince (aged 34) and stepbrothers and stepsisters Eliza (7), Esther (5), Harriet (3), John (10) and Sarah (infant).
Edward Quince came from Gosberton, Lincolnshire and paid 6 pounds for the passage for himself and his family. William was listed as a farm labourer. William's father was John Picker and his mother Mary Coddington.
In 1857 (in the Police Office in Goulburn) William married Elizabeth Marks (born 1838), the daughter of William Marks and Ann Lamb (born 1816). William was a convict who arrived on the "Asia III" and Ann arrived on the "Layton" on 17 December 1833.
