Hello William- I have been studying the information sent in your reply.I, too, was told the David/Jacob/John line was our ancestry. However, with more advanced resources, I don't accept that as the "final answer" for our research.
I checked the 1790,1800,1810,1820 and 1860 internet census results for Pickle names and locations.I am curious on the two David Pickles in 1860 VA.Our David (61) is in Wythe and there is another David (42) in Smyth Co.They are about 30 miles apart!I wonder if our David (who was 32 when he married Polly Porter) had an earlier marriage?
I found a David Pickle b. 29 June 1819, d. 05 Aug 1897 and buried in the St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery in Smyth Co.This must be the one I mentioned in the above paragraph. There is also a David Tobias Pickle s/o D. and M.T. Pickle, Clarisa Pickle d. 29 May 1881, w/o David Pickle, and Juda K. Pickle, d/o David and Margaret Pickle! And I forgot to mention there is a Claborn Pickle 1856-1920, too.
