I have begun a Pickle Family DNA Project through FamilyTree DNA.So, far, I'm the only Pickel/le/ell to participate, but with more involvement, we may be able to get a handle on how some of us are related and where our ancestors came from.
This is a "Surname Project" and traces male, Y-chromosome markers carried from father to son down the generations, like the family name. These markers change very little over the centuries, so if any two men have the same paternal ancestor, they will share these markers. The more men we get involved in this Project, the better picture we can get of the Pickle/el/ell family.
This will link you to both the Project several resources to explan how Genealogical DNA testing works.
If you have an interest in having your DNA tested and matched (confidentially) with thousands of other men, joining the Pickle Family Project will provide a lower testing fee.(See the site for details).
