Thanks for the posting. My Great Grandfather was James, my Grandfather was James Henry, and my father was Jack. I am missing some information on a sister of my Great Grandfather, Mary Ann, who married a John Rawstron on 31/12/1863 at the Register Office, Haslingden. Mary Ann was born on 15/11/1837 at Sunny Bank, Crawshawbooth and John was born c.1835. John's father was James Rawstron, a labourer, and John's residence at the time of his marriage was Stonefold, Lower Booths. One of the witnesses was an Elizabeth Rawstron, who could possibly have been either a sister or the mother of John. I have no idea what happened to John & Mary Ann after their marriage. Perhaps you can help?
Since posting my original request for information regarding my Great Great Grandfather, Henry, I have been working on a theory that he may have been the son of a John & Mary Pickup who appear on the 1841 census at Bottomly Bank, Higher Booths. The same address as on Henry's marriage register entry. It could be a coincidence or maybe they hadn't moved since 1836. Also listed are Richard aged 22, Mary aged 19, Betty aged 13 and Jane aged 1. John & Mary are both aged 56, the right sort of age for being Henry's parents. I need some evidence to prove my theory and consequently more information on John & Mary. What was Mary's maiden name, when & where did they marry, and who was John's father (& mother)?
I too am more or less carrying out a one-name study of the Pickup name in Rossendale, although restricted to the Crawshawbooth & Goodshaw area. Perhaps I can be of assistance to you in some way.
