The Castro Men have married two women from the Northern Pico family. At this point I should say the mother Isabel Cota – Pico "Jose Dolores Pico's wife" dies in Castroville in 1869. The Castro’s married very well. Jose Dolores Pico, came from Spain. I'm looking for the place and year of his birth and death for he and his wifes. He married his second wife Isabel Cota in 1791 they had 13 children. One of the children was Filomena Pico she married Louis Pomber. “The Canadian Trapper.” See the Pico's, Castro's, Pomber's, family inside: Don Macario Castro was born in 1753 and died in 1809 at Mission San Carlos at Carmel and is buried there. Don Macario Castro and wife Maria Potenciana Remirez had 12 children. He did have brothers living perhaps in Sinaloa. Sinaloa was then held by Spain, today Senaloa is in Mexico. This time line biography was built by the use of the stated place of baptism of the newly born Castro children. So now we have a story line of the life of the wife of the Castro family. Complexity is certain, Don Macario Castro lived a life like all soldiers do, always on the move. Don Macario Castro’s places and dates of service ran like this. From 1785 to 1787 he was at San Juan Capistrano Mission. From 1790 to 1794 at Mission San Jose and Soledad Mission. Were Don Macario Castro’s life began with Maria Potenciana Remirez is not yet understood. The closest birth of a Castro child to Senaloa was Jose Tiburcio Castro he has no known year of birth. It was said he was born in Tubuc “Arizona.” If we say Don Macario Castro married his wife some were near the beginning of the written history of his life. I will always hope it’s understood how we arrived at the year of marriage as about “1780.” At this time in his life he is a soldier. So we’ll shall say he meet his wife Maria Potenciana Remirez some were between Senaloa, 1778 and Tubac not later than 1781. Don Macario Castro became a soldier in the Spanish Army in 1778. One child Jose Tiburcio Castro was born in Tubuc “Arizona.” Tubac is north of Senaloa on very well traveled roads. Tubac was very early Spanish settlement in what is today Arizona. Jose Tiburcio Castro has no known year of birth. Don Macario Castro and his wife Maria Potenciana Remirez may havehad their first child Jose Tiburcio Castro in Tubac. Judging by the movement of Don Macario Castro and his family. They were moving up and out of Sinaloa north to Tubuc. Then later there was a westward move to Alta California’s Santa Barbara. By 1783 the Castro family was in Alta California’s Santa Barbara for the next family birth. This means that Don Macario Castro and wife and at least one small child “Jose Tiburcio Castro” made the long move from Tubuc “Arizona” to Alta California’s West Coast. This move was across the Mohove Desert was on a road what was known as the Spanish Trail. This was traveled at best with ox cart and oxen. Ox cart and oxen were known to travel 10 or so miles in a day. The old Missions were laid out about ten miles apart or one-day worth of travel apart from each other. The next move was to Mission San Diego in about 1785. This is possibly were Don Macario Castro became a corporal in the garrison of the San Diego Company. The Castro family was living at the Santa Clara Mission and also at the Mission San Capistrano in the year of 1791. By 1792 they had moved to San Carlos Mission. In 1794 the family had moved to the Santa Clara Mission. His wife and young family was certainly following along the best they could. Don Macario Castro died in Mission San Carlos at Carmel and was buried there in 1809.
