Peter,
A somewhat belated response to your message, I don’t have too much detail and they have not been checked – so please treat all dates as “about”. I am following the “Gisby” trail so the information sits to one side of Caroline who is a sister of my GGGFather (John). I have William Piddock m Caroline Gisby (d.1955) 18 Feb 1883. The children are listed as: Dorothy, Mary, Violet, Daisy Sophia b. 1899, Mabel Emily b. 1901, William b. 1902, Thomas “Tucker” B. 1903, Emily Rose b.1904, Carrie b. 3 Feb 1906, John b.1907.
I have a reference to Gunner Friend and Violet with 3 children listed as Pauline, Gordon, Pamela b. 1940.
I have Carrie and Walter Robert Hickman (b 1899 Hawkinge). Looking further on I suspect the name “Eric” means something to you. I also have the Ghost children as Gareth Williams and Ruth Joan.
This might seem a bit in depth for someone looking for Gisbys. However, I grew up in the area and there was a local character “Dougie Piddock”.To say he liked a drink was bit of an understatement, but as kids he was fascinating, later on when I used to help out in local Pub I talked to him a bit more. For a long time he had a dog, it had a strange name which I have long forgotten, which is supposed to have saved him from a fire (sometime in the ‘50s). He lived in a barn at the time I think, he walked just about everywhere and at the time was living near Ash (I think Cooper Street but the recall button is not too good on this). This information was stuck on one side for the time (dream on) when I have time to go back and try and find some more details.
Bob
