Parents: Allen & Annie (Corbin) Pierse. The father was a lawyer who, while living in Kansas, served in the State Legislature. He died fighting for the Union in the Civil War.
Allen, Jr. was educated in Leavenworth, KS, and Buffalo, NY, where the family had moved during his childhood. In 1873, he went to Corrine, Utah, and by stage to Deer Lodge, MT, where he first drove stage & then for 10 years operated the Buffalo Hump stage station between Butte & Deer Lodge. From 1885-1890, he engaged in sheep raising in the Judith Basin; 1890 moved to Niehart and engaged in mining and merchandising. Was elected Meagher County Treasurer, 1894; county clerk in 1898. Spent 1-1/2 years in California & relocated to Great Falls, Montana, where he conducted an automobile agency, Pierse Auto Company.
On 27 June 1880, Allen married Carrie M. Woods, a native of Missouri. One child: Edwin A.
