Several Norman family websites indicate that Roseanne (Rose) Norman was born about 1735 in VA, daughter of Isaac and Frances Courtney Norman and that she married William Duncan about 1755 also in VA.
The same websites show that Rose and William Duncan had the following children: (1) Benjamin, m Asenith Browning 1793; (2) William, b 1756; (3) James, b Abt 1758, m Molly Browning; (4)Frederick, b Abt 1761 m Sarah Browning; and (5) Sarah, b 1781; died 1869, m Isaac Browning.
I have also seen information posted on several GEDCOM's that Roseanne and William also had a daughter Elizabeth and a son Joseph, b 1757, m 1st Rebecca Vandergrift and 2nd Susie Garrett.
Am looking for any information on this family, especially William Sr, his parents and family and his son William Jr, born 1756.
My mother is a Duncan and we have family history pages, etc, back to William Penn Duncan, born 1830 in Smith Co, TN, married Rebecca sophronia Huey. That information only shows that William Penn's parents were William Duncan and Julia Unknown, both born in TN.
Again have found several GEDCOM's that claim Julia is Julia Pigg and that William is son of Joseph Duncan, b 1757. The problem I am having is these same pages indicate Joseph married 1st, in 1813 and had four children, and 2nd after 1818 and had seven more children. That would make Joseph about 56 when he first married and then he fathered eleven children after that up into his 70's or 80's.
My thoughts are that Joseph was not born in 1757, but possibly around 1775 and that his father may have been William, born 1756, the son of William & Rosanne.
Even more frustrating is half the sites have the Julia Pigg that married William Duncan as the daughter of John Pigg Sr and his wife Mary Fuqua, b abt 1780, and the other half have her as the daughter of John Pigg and Mary Fuqua's son John William Pigg, b abt 1816 in TN, and his 2nd wife Carrie Pressie. This last scenario seems more plausible to me because of the ages of those involved - except the 1757 birth date of Joseph.
Any help untangling this puzzle would be greatly appreciated as well as any information on Rose and William.
