Dan,
Here is John's family informaton and your Grandfather could have been his youngest by what I can see.The only thing I see that DOES NOT FIT are the dates you sent. 1834 for Henry's birthdate won't fit this family I have.See below...Henry would have been way too young to be John's (My John's) father:
I have John Pilkenton born 1829 in TN, wife was Mary C. born 1837 in TN.They had the following children per the 1880 Lawrence Co., Missoui Mt. Vernon Township Federal Census that I was sent 3 months or so ago from Kathy Harmon (a very nice person!) Source:FHL Film 1254698 National Archives Film T9-0698 Page 574B:
John PILKENTON Self M M W 51 TN

Mary C PILKENTON Wife F M W 43 TN
Occ:Keeping House Fa: TNMo: TN
William Porter born Jan. 18, 1861 in MO was 19 then
W.P. married Catherine Ann Mullins Feb. 19, 1882 and shows he was from Joplin, MO and buried in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Erath Co., Texas. He died on Jan. 15, 1929 (I have a copy of his death certificate coming) I have a picture of him and Catherine and also their daughter, Nora Belle my Great Grandmother.
Hannah E. born 1865 in MO was 15 then
John born 1867 in MO was 13 then
Anna born 1869 in MO was 11 then
Ellen born 1871 in MO was 9 then
Alice born 1874 in MO was 6 then
BENJAMIN born 1879 in MO and was 1 yrs. old then
Could this "Ben" be your Grandfather? Was he the youngest?
On Henry and Ellen I show they lived in Lawrence Co. Mt. Vernon Township in 1860, per the help of Judy Reustle just this week. But they show alone in their household and no children.Ages were 60 and 57 at that time. So, they lived a pretty long time for those days.In the next 1870 Census in Mt. Pleasant Township they are living with John at 70 and 64.
I will try and find out who all their children were. I will ask these nice and helpful volunters in Lawrence Co. to see if there is an earlier census showing him and his family there. They are very helpful.Just send me what ever you can dig up and I am DETERMINED to find this family all the way to ENGLAND where they originally came from.Could be Ireland/Scotland too, but probably England. I am very interested in anything you wish to share. If we find out this doesn't fit, maybe we are still related somewhere down the road!
Also, someone is looking for more information on a Mary Ann Pilkington from TN, so maybe she was Henry's child, do you happen to know?
I have dark hair and dark eyes and I am slightly olive complected, and have some freckles.Just wondering if the Pilkington's traits were light or dark on your side.
Don't mean to bombard you with stuff! I hope the date for Henry is different because it would not fit with the census info. either with 1834 as a birthdate for Henry. Him being around 60 in the 1860 census or being 70 in the 1870 won't go.This puts him being born close to 1800.He possibly could be an uncle or another relative on my side, if this isn't my direct line. There were a lot of Johns in this family, so who knows.I will be waiting to hear from you!
