I'm researching my great-uncle MacDonald Gill, architect and artist (1884 - 1947) who was articled at age 16 to Leonard Pilkington in Bognor Regis from February 1901 for two years, before moving to London. He became good friends with the family, in particular Emile. When visiting Bognor in later years he would call on Mr and Mrs Pilkington. He also met Emile up in London. There is no mention in his diaries of how Mr and Mrs Pilkington met or indeed any info on their characters. There are references to Pilkington holidays abroad, and to the jobs that Leonard Pilkington was engaged upon in the vicinity of Bognor between 1901 and 1903.
