The above are my direct ancestors: James Smith Pilkinton and his wife Cynthia Davidson Renfro are my gr-gr-gr-grandparents. James Smith is the son of Jesse Pilkinton (b.1792 NC). Jesse(1792)and Larkin(1781)were most likely brothers. Their Father appears to have been Nicanor Pilkinton (b. abt. 1750). They both traveled to Maury Co.,TN from Guilford Co., NC in 1820/1830 time frame. Jefferson is my gr-gr-grandfather and was the eldest son of James S. and Cynthia D. Pilkinton. Most of the Pilkinton's that you find in Giles and Lawrence County will be descended through James son of Jesse. Wereas most if not all Pilkinton's in Maury County will be from Larkin (b.1 mar 1781 Va.)and Nancy Pilkinton. The exception being of course Jim (James W.)Pilkinton (born 1869/71) and wife Alice and all their descendants. Thanks for posting the Pilkinton's in Marshall County. I was unaware of them. Now I have gone to the census and enumerated them. I also found a George(26)and Elizabeth Pilkinton in 1870 Marshall County page 164a 13th civil district (Mooresville) with some Perry's in the household. I am fairly certain George was in the 24th Infantry C.S. "Duck River Riflemen". Most of these men have the tell-tale 4 year gap in the birthdates of their children 1861-1865. I was born in that area of middle Tennessee and for those who are not familiar with it - all these Pilkinton's lived basically within about a 10 to 20 mile radius of Culleoka (Maury County where the Pilkinton's first settled in middle Tennessee)which encompasses more or less the corners of Maury, Lawrence, Giles and Marshall counties. This is alot for anyone to sort out!
