Daniel W Pine Two times editor Tom Nolte included articles in the paper about a reinterment service for Pvt. Daniel W Pine, a Civil War veteran who died in Jackson, was buried in a remote part of a county cemetery and forgotten.A friend gave us a brochure telling of him, at the age of 36, volunteering for duty August 12, 1862 in Onondaga County, New York and serving with the 122nd New York Infantry.
His regiment took part in most major battles in the east.Twice he was wounded: first at Cedar Creek, Virginia in 1864 and second during the siege of Petersburg, Virginia in 1865.He mustered out in 1865 then worked on the Erie Canal as a laborer in New York State. Why or how he got to Jackson is a mystery that will never be solved."
