I appreciate your information concerning Matilda Blair Piner.I will pursue that route in hopes of finding my gg grandfather, David Piner's whereabouts after 1864.I've read that he left Cal. for Missouri to 1)fight on the Confederate side in the Civil War or 2) gather another group of Missourians to lead to California. He took his family with him back to Missouri, so I can't figure why he would take them back to Missouri for either of these two reasons. The story goes that his first wife Mary Ann Maddox was killed by Indians on the return trip.We know he remarried in Missouri, Matilda Blair, 1864. Then returned through Texas ... Wise County? staying with Maddox's sister-in-law, a Sensibaugh. There were Sensibaugh's in Wise County at this time. Also, Sensibaugh's in Sonoma County CA.There were Indian skirmishes in Wise Co. during this period also. There is a George W. Mattox who served with Quantrille's Co. in Missouri during the Civil War.Is this the brother-in-law of David.I can find no record that David Piner served in the Civil War?except in N. Carolina.Just thinking out loud.So many questions ... so few clues.
