DENISON DAILY HERALD, Monday, June 19, 1912 STRUCK BY KATY FLYER ON TRESTLE An attempt to outrun the Katy Flyer across a long trestle was the cause of the death of an unknown white man one and one half miles north of Bells at ll:40 today.
Northbound Katy Flyer #6 struck the man shortly before noon about the center of the trestle. The pilot of the train threw the unfortunate man to the right of way and wen the members of the crew arrived the man was dead. The head and face were badly cut and bruised and the lower limbs were broken. The remains were picked up and placed in the baggage car. When the train arrived in Denison they were turned over to the George Shield Undertaking Company where they are being held, pending identification.
The man carried a cheap suitcase which contained a few pieces of wearing apparel and a Mexican walking stick. A few papers found in pockets of the coat failed to reveal his name.
He was of medium size with sandy complexion and wore the clothing of a laborer. On the little finger of the left hand he wore a black band ring with an initation diamond.
Members of the crew are of the opinion that he is a farmer residing in the Bells neighborhood and efforts are being made to notify his relatives. Body sent to Wise Funeral Home, Bonham. Niece, Missouri Piner received settlement from the railroad according to Floy Clark.)
In 1858 David PINER sold acreage in Sonoma Co. to a DAVIS. So we know he was in CA then.
