I need your thoughts on this line:My ancestor Harmon Read of IOW, VA married as his second wife, Mary Pendry, who I estimate to have been born around 1714. IOW records indicate that Mary could be part of the Henry Pendry family of IOW.In 1717 Henry Pendry had 100 Acres patented to him on the N side of the Meherin River. In 1740 John Pendry is selling Henry's 100 A.In 1744 in IOW, Aaron Pendry also sells 100 A on the N side of Meherin River.
Harmon, by his first wife Ann, had children: James, Amy and Elizabeth, names that do not run in your family. Now, when he has children by Mary Pendry, the names are Lydia; Moses; Aaron; Dorcas and Jesse.Jesse was one of the early Primitive Baptist preachers in NC.The names Asa and Clement also run in this family.
What are your thoughts about this Pendry being Pengry or Pingry?I've checked the original deeds, etc. personally at the IOW courthouse and they all clearly say Pendry, but with a person's accent being what it was, who knows how it might have sounded.
I'v recently ordered from Higginson's, the book "Desc. of Moses Pengry of Ipswich" and I'm just waiting for it to arrive.
I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have, as to the direction I should take in this research.
