I agree that Nathan and Dovey Pinion are the most likely parents of my gggrandfather Stokes L., born 1849, (he went by "Leroy"). They probably died young and their son Stokes Leeroy was raised by an uncle and aunt (Stokes and Polly Pinion of Lawrence County in 1860).
Stokes Leroy's death certificate list his parents as "Manny" Pinion and Mariah White. There is a marriage record for a Nathan Pinion to a Dovey Mariah Pinion that was executed on May 3, 1946 in Marshall County by James C. Powell, JP. The marriage date is about right for them to be the parents of Stokes L. Nathan probably went by "Manny" and Dovey Mariah Pinion was Mariah White who had married another Pinion before Nathan. Or, perhaps Dovey Mariah married a White after Nathan Pinion and the informant on the DC, who's signature is completely illegible, gave Mariah's name at the time of her death. So far my research along these theories has failed to turn up any evidence, or even a trace of Nathan or Dovey Mariah beyond the marriage record and the 1850 Marshall County census record.
If anyone can establish Nathan Pinion's relationship to Stokes and Polly Pinion, who wwere raising Stokes Leroy Pinion in 1860, please post it here. If anyone can establish the parentage of Dovey Mariah (White?) Pinion who married Nathan Pinion please share some information.
