This information is from "The Big White Book", genealogy and history of James "Grandsire" Pinnick 1747 - 1831, and allied families.Compiled by Billy Max and Roxie Day Pinnick, 1992
There was a Nancy Ann Pinnick, born 1827 in Orange Co., Indiana. She was one of 11 children born to Nathan Pinnick and AnnPinnick. She married John Alfred Rhodes in 1847. John and Nancy had seven children. She died August 9, 1869.
Her father, Nathan, came to Indiana in 1808 with his brothers at the age of 16.In late 1813, he returned to Kentucky to marry his first cousin, Ann Pinnick, daughter of William Pinnick, brother of James "Grandsire" PinnickThey were married January 14, 1814 and remained in Kentucky until 1815 when they traveled back to Indiana. They were accompaniedby Nathan's parents and sisters, Charlotte and Lucinda. When they arrived in Indiana, "milk sickness" was sweeping the county about Unionville where Nathan had lived. He purchased a farm on Log Creek, trying to avoid the sickness. Here they built a cabin and named it "Green Ray" farm.
In 1816, both Nathan's sister, Mary Jane and her husband, John D. Faris, died from the fever, leaving four young children. The family buried the couple on a hill at Nathan's farm. This was the beginning of the Log Creek Cemetery. The four children lived with Nathan and Ann until they were grown, along with Nathan's eleven children. Tragedy struck again when they were clearing land, a tree fell on their son, John, and he was buried in the Log Creek Cemetery.
Nathan laid out the town of Prospect and was known as one of the best hunters in Orange County. He was a noted Baptist preacher, leading the family in donation land for the construction of the 'Old Baptist Meetinghouse' church and cemetery just outside of French Lick, Orange County, Indiana. On June 16, 1858, he suffered a stroke while preaching.Ann held his head in her lap in the back of the wagon on the way home.He looked up at her and said, "Thank God, I've heard the gospel preached one last time".Then he died.Nathan is buried in the Old Baptist Meeting House Cemetery in Orange County, Indiana.
