Mr. Gary Pinson is a totally reliable expert on matters regarding Pinson research. Regarding the place where all Pinsons ORIGINALLY came from, that place is a small village in Normandy, France called Montpinson. The Pinzons of Palos, Spain were from Normandy. Richard Pynson, King's Printer, was from Normandy. The Thomas Pinson, who may have been the ancestor of our American Pinsons, derived his name from Pinsons from Normandy. The very first person who carried the surname Pinson alone is not yet determined. The very first person to carry the Pinson name in any of it's various forms was Ralph de Mont Pinson of Normandy in the year 1066, a companion and dapifer on William the Conqueror. At this time, we cannot say with certainty if the Pinson name was a direct descendant of the Mont Pinson name. What we can say is that both came from Normandy. The Pinzon name and Pinson name are the same. No record exists of Pinzons in Spain prior to 1492. They most certainly were from Normandy as are all Pinsons.
