I have a long term plan of trying to connect all of my Butler relatives; but am now interested in finding wills or tax information concerning my ancestors that may be documented in the Pitchlynn Family Papers (particularly Hannibal or Matilda/Liddia Butler).I will add Tom Pitchlynn to my list of folks to look in to.
I don't know how far I will get, as I know there were several common names (and ages) among the families: Hannibal's parents were named Hannibal and Mary Butler.Matilda's parents were named Peter and Rose Harris...I know, common for the time period(besides Hannibal), but I am up for the challenge :-).
My guess is that some of them made the Trail of Tears; since Peter Pitchlynn mentions 'the slaves' in his diary of the journey.I often wonder if this reference includes my ancestors; or if they were acquired after the Choctaws reached Indian Territory.
I must say, however, that I feel curious and strangely fortunate about being connected to this family; as they were a prominent family in Choctaw AND American History. I believe that this connection affords me more available data than most people ever get to research; particularly relating to African and Native American ancestry.
I'm sure it will be interesting to discover whatever is available, even though names were not used on the slave schedules~ and the institution of slavery itself still makes some folks uncomfortable...Oh well, enough rambling!!
