For years manyhave been assuming that Lewis Andrew Pitman was a son of William Pitman and his wife, Sally Webb. Many family trees have been posted showing that relationship. There has never been any documentation for that relationship found,it is only supposition.
Now, DNA testing has proven that Lewis Andrew Pitman is not a son of William Pitman.Resultsat a Y-DNA test project for the Pitman/Pittman families show there is no match betweenthe descendantsofLewisand William .
Descendant ofLewis Andrew Pitman is participant # 78038 Descendant of William (Longhunter) Pitman is participant # 115799 Descendant of Thomas Pitman (brother of William) is participant # 61648 Participants # 115799 and # 61648 do match as they should.
There arepossible matches with Lewis’s descendant and participants # 80014 and # 108881.However each of those two have only 12 marker results posted and that is not enough to establish a close relationship with any degree of certainty.
Another possible match is Lewis with participant #181782.However when comparing the values of Lewis with that person over a larger number of markers, enough differences are shown to indicate a common ancestor at some very distant time --not within a close time period.
I urge any Pitman/Pittman researchers who have not done a GenealogicalDNAtest, do so.A larger test group would be helpful in finding family groups and removing some of the mysteries of who our ancestors were.
But we still do not know who are the parents of Lewis.
