I am researching the family of Benjamin Pittman b. 1800 d. 1877 who married Elizabeth Smyers. For many years I have been trying to find Benjamin's parents. While looking at the obit of one of their daughters, I found she was born in Cambria Co., near Garmantown in 1830. This told me where Benjamin's family was in 1830 so I looked up the Cambria co.census and found him. I did not see him before because the writing was transcribed Benjamin Pelman/Petman. They lived very close to Philip Smyers who was his father-in-law. The only other Pittman listed in all of Cambria Co. was William Pittman/Petman of Summerhill Twp. which boarders Blair Co. This is important because it is documented in the History of Indiana Co. that Benjamin's forebarers came from the Blair Co. area. Benjamin also named his first child William Pittman. I am now trying to collect as much info as I can on William b. between 1770-1780. I also found him in the 1840 census in Washington Twp. Cambria Co. but he probably died before the 1850 census. I found that he had several children which stayed in his general area: Rebecca Pittman b. 1807 m. Philip D. George Elias Pittman b.between 1810-1820 daughter Pittman b. between 1815-1820 John Pittman b.abt. 1820 m. Hannah Jacob Pittman b. abt 1825 m. Margaret
I noticed there is a lot of old/wrong data out there that lists Benjamin born 1818. This is the wrong Benjamin. Also, Rebecca Pittman b. 1807. People are confusing this Rebecca with one born in 1814 to Joseph John Pittman & Easter McCounce. That is a different Rebecca.
If anyone has any info they would like to trade on any of these families please contact me. This William is my G-g-g grandfather.Thank you
