I am an 11th Generation Pledger from John Pledger Sr.and my familly line is as follows John Pledger - Eng. John Pledger - 1st born American Pledger - NJ. John Pledger - NJ. Joesph Pledger - Va. Thomas R. Pledger - Ga Isaac M. (Murrel possibly) Pledger - Ga. Marshal N. Pledger - Ga. Lemuel Oswald Pledger - Ga. Walter M. Pledger Sr - Ga. Walter M. Pledger Jr - Ga. Blake A. Pledger - Ga.
My Family History seems to tie into the Southern Pledger families and from the looks of things I have a lot of cousins.(most of whom seem to be in Ga.)
I have seen a lot of listings for Thomas R. Pledger who was my gggg grandfather. My understanding is that he is buried in Elberton Co. and that his son Isaac is buried in Athens/ Clarke Co. I have not visited either grave site as to my not being able to find them personally. If you know of the whereabouts of the cemteries please let me know.
To Give a little bit of informaton that I have had passed down to me. I knew where Marshal was buried since my own grandfather is buried at the foot of Marshall's grave in the Oconee hills Cemetary outside the gates of UGA's Stadium. On his burial plot stands a Black Cast Iron plaque with the CSA emblems on it. (confederate soldiers of America.) He ( and his father Isaac I just found out)fought in the Civil War, and there is mention of both of them together in one of the battalions.I had always heard that one of the Pledgers built the Dual barrel cannons found in Athens. Which is quite possible since Great Grandpa Lemuel Oswald Pledger was a blacksmith by trade and learned it from his father. So anyone related to Marshall N. Pledger has a part of that history to cling to. If anyone can verify that I would appreciate that.
I also noticed where the Pledgers from Summerville were asking questions about thier forefather. He is tied to Marshall Pledger as my Grandfather (Walter M. Pledger Sr.) made mention to my father on numerous occasions that he had first cousins that lived close to Rome. Therefore it is possible that G. Cleveland Pledger was the son or grandson of Marshall Pledger and brother or nephew to Lemuel Oswald Pledger. I hope that it will help further secure thier family line. If you need the dates of both men I have them (as well as pictures of their headstones)
I would enjoy greatly any interaction in regards to the Pledger family. I have only been researching the family lines for about 8months and found that I have a huge family out there.
